Filippo Volandri

Filippo Volandri ( born September 5, 1981 in Livorno ) is an Italian tennis player.

Career

Volandri 1997 pro. In 2004, he won his first ATP tournament in St. Pölten. On 16 May 2005 Volandri took in the tennis world rankings to 28th place, his highest placing to date. In the same year he reached the 3rd round of the French Open. 2006 was won by the Italians, the ATP tournament in Palermo.

When the ATP Masters Rome 2007 Volandri caused a stir when he surprisingly the world number one Roger Federer defeated in the second round 6-2, 6-4. Previously, the Italians had already been able to defeat Richard Gasquet. With a win against the Czech Tomáš Berdych Volandri moved into the semifinals, where he lost to Fernando Gonzalez of Chile with 1:6 and 2:6. At the French Open in the same year Volandri reached the first knockout round, where he defeated Tommy Robredo.

On 15 January 2009 a doping suspension for three months was pronounced against him, but this was canceled two weeks before the end completely by the CAS. At the Indian Wells tournament in 2008, he was tested positive for salbutamol. Volandri has because of his asthma disease, although an exemption for this substance, however, accused him of exceeding pre-agreed limits. The measures imposed by the original lock sanctions were undone by the CAS ruling.

In the 2013 season Volandri was especially successful on the ATP Challenger Tour. He won in a single two tournaments and was in three other finals, which he did for the ATP Challenger Tour Finals 2013 qualified. He won the tournament in the final against Alejandro González.
