Fillrate

The fill rate ( engl. fill rate, fill rate ) is the number of pixels or texels calculate a graphics processor in a given period and can write to video memory. It is accordingly measured in megapixels or Mega texels per second.

While available in late 1996 graphics chipsets had a fill rate in the double-digit MT / s range ( had for example the Voodoo Graphics chipset a fill rate of 45 MT / s), is achieved in September 2007, nearly a factor of 1000 higher fill rates ( G80 with about 39,000 MT / s).

In modern graphics chips occurs, as with other processors, the theoretical computational performance ( FLOPS ), but also the fill rate of more and more into the background, and they can not therefore be used as a direct basis for comparison. The fill rate for this is indeed the most appropriate, but may be due to the different forms to calculate it, may not be used as a unique reference value. In addition, the value assumes that the processor is always at 100% efficiency ( in spite of its connection to the bus system or the performance of other components in the system) operates.
