Fimbatal

Ischgl - Entrance to Fimbertal

The Fimbatal (also Fimbertal, Romansh: Val Fenga ) is a valley in the Alps, which branches at Ischgl (Tyrol ) from Paznaun and ends before the Piz Tasna. Geographically, it separates the mountains of the Silvretta Samnaun Group and the Group. The state border runs through the valley, so that the northern section to Austria and the shorter southern part of Switzerland. The valley is drained by the 20 km long Fimbabach, which flows near Ischgl in the Trisanna.

Geography

Politically part of the upper part of Fimbatals an exclave to Valsot (Eastern Switzerland, Canton of Grisons ) in the otherwise Austrian Paznauntal. This feature was created in the late Middle Ages through the intensive search of the Engadin village of grazing areas.

East of the upper Fimbatals the Fimberpass ( 2'608 m above sea level. M. ) leads to the Val Chöglias. It is a historical cross-connection between Engadine and Paznaun.

Traffic

The pass is only attached between Ischgl and the Heidelberger hut, and regular traffic is permitted only on a seasonal basis between Ischgl and the Bodenalpe.

Since there is no way by car to cross the Silvretta group, to get from Austria to Switzerland, a gigantic detour must be driven with the vehicle to get from Ischgl to Sent, Ramosch and Scuol (journey time around the two hours by car). That makes it even more attractive for hikers, the Fimbatal and the Piz Tasna to cross, as the trail passes through an area within which far and wide no settlement can be seen.

Sports, Leisure, Tourism

The Fimbatal is popular because of its landscape with hikers, the 3,398 m high flight horn can be seen from the valley. With his passport, it has significance for mountain and cross country skiers, but also and not least for mountain bikers. East of Fimbatals is the Silvretta Arena, one of the largest ski areas in the eastern Alps. In Fimbatal Heidelberger hut located ( 2,264 meters), it serves as a refuge and dining facility, including accommodation, as well as the Bodenalpe and Gampenalp ( Restaurants of the Silvretta Arena).

The beginning of the valley is located on the edge of the ski resort of Samnaun -Ischgl, so that one occasionally encounters ski lifts, including slopes. After a few kilometers of the valley then passes through a nature reserve in a high level. Heidelberger hut is the center of the valley. There cruising trails to Samnaun Galtür and the Fimberpass and a hike from the Heidelberger hut in all target directions is recognized for the average hiker to six hours. A hike through the Fimbatals including ascent of Piz Tasna in just one day is not recommended.

Experienced skiers use the Fimbatal like a link between the ski Samnaun -Ischgl and Motta Naluns ( Scuol- Sent - Ftan ). To get from Motta Naluns in the Silvretta ski area ( Samnaun -Ischgl ), must first be driven with the highest lift to the Piz Champatsch. There, a dirt road that leads behind the mountain Piz Champatsch in a plateau known as tiral and is located between the mountains and Tasna Champatsch begins. There, the Piz Tasna must be climbed, and it does not apply to cross the summit, but a ridge east of the tip. There runs a hiking trail, on which are guide to the Heidelberger hut. As soon as you cross the ridge and met up with the trail can use this with the skis, and it comes at a moderate slope downhill.

The journey time to the first lift of the Samnaun- Ischgl ( Gampenalpe ) is yes according to performance and weather conditions between 60 and 120 minutes. A similar time should be taken into account for the rise. The lift at the Gampenalpe leads to a position at which a valley run begins to Samnaun. In Samnaun there is a bus back to Motta Naluns. Since the closing times of the lifts are taken into account, the tour should start in the early morning, and are tested strictly according to the ascent of Piz Tasna whether it still makes sense to drive or reverse the track. In bad weather or snow, the tour should be avoided. Clear visibility is condition. Less experienced hikers have the opportunity to book to take part in a group tour with a guide in the ski schools. On a special experience in deep snow depends, however, less because the tour has more of the character of a cross-country and one is rarely the first who has driven on the Fimberpass along.

For mountain bikers, the Fimbatal is an important connection to get on a Transalp from Paznauntal the Inn Valley. In Fimbatal meet with the Heckmair route, the Joe - route and the Albrecht-Route successive three of the most important Alpine routes cross.
