Financial District (Toronto)

The Financial District is a district in Toronto, who belongs to the district of Old Toronto. Originally this part was planned as New Town in 1796, which should be an extension of the city, which at that time still called York. The Financial District is home to the most important financial and trading centers in Canada such as the Toronto Stock Exchange. The district is bounded on the north by Queen Street, east of Yonge Street, south of Front Street and west of University Avenue. The intersection of Bay Street and King Street is the hub.

The Financial District contains the tallest skyscrapers in Toronto, making it the most densely populated district of the city. Most of the buildings in the Financial District are connected to the tunnel system PATH. It is estimated that 100,000 people commute for work reasons in this district. Technical traffic hub of the Toronto subway and regional train GO Transit Union Station is on the southern edge of the Financial District.
