The Finnish national ice hockey team is one of the leading teams in the world and is currently No. 2 in the IIHF World Ranking. Out it is from Suomen Jääkiekkoliitto. Finland's most important tournament wins were the 1995 World Championships and 2011. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1988 and 2006, she won the silver medal. At the World Cup of Hockey 2004 she was runner-up, after they were able to win the semi-finals against the United States and lost the final against Canada. In addition, they could 2002/2003 and 2003/2004 the Rosno Cup win, as well as 1996/97 and 1999/2000 to 2003/2004, the Euro Hockey Tour. Since 2013 Erkka Westerlund has been head coach of the Lions.
