Finney County, Kansas
Finney County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Garden City.
Geography
The County is located in the central south-west of Kansas and has an area of 3374 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Scott County, Lane County, Ness County, Hodgeman County, Haskell County, Gray County, Grant County and Kearny County.
History
Finney County was formed on March 6, 1873 from parts of Marion County. It was named after DW Finney, a deputy governor of Kansas.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Finney County 40 523 people in 12,948 households and 9,749 families in Finney County. The population density was 12 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 69.05 percent White, 1.25 percent African American, 0.96 percent Native American, 2.87 percent Asian, 0.08 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 22.99 percent from other races groups; 2.8 percent were descended from two or more races. 43.30 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 12,948 households out of which 46.0 percent of children under 18 who lived with them. 59.8 percent were married couples living together, 10.5 percent were single mothers and 24.7 percent were non-families. 19.6 percent of all households were single-person households and 6.3 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.09 and the average family size was 3.55 persons.
34.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 11.0 percent of 18 to 24 years 31.1 percent between 25 and 44, 16.6 percent between 45 and 64 years, and 7.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 104.2 males. For every 100 adult women aged 18 years or 103.3 males.
The median income for a household was $ 38,474, and the median income for a family was $ 42,839. Males have a median income of $ 29,948, women $ 21,510. The per capita income was $ 15,377. 10.0 percent of families and 14.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
