Pd3pd5

The Finstaarhorn with 4'274 m above sea level. M. the highest peak of the Bernese Alps, in the canton of Bern and at all the Lötschberg and Simplon east of Switzerland, and it is also the highest point in the catchment area of the Rhine. Its distinctive summit dominates the panorama of the entire central and eastern Switzerland.

The Finstaarhorn has a sharpened, shark fin-like shape and appears the burrs from NW or SO along strike as steep horn. Transverse to it appears as broad executed layered triangle.

Geologically, it is part of the Aar Massif and consists of amphibolite. Geomorphological its mountain shape is characterized as Karling.

The normal increase occurs - starting from the Grimsel Pass - from Finsteraarhornhütte on the SW side to the first paragraph of the NW- ridge (called Hugisattel to 4'088 m), and from there over the ridge (initially in the rock or in the snow SW flank ) to the summit ( WS I -II).

It was climbed by Arnold Abbühl, Joseph Bortis and Alois Volken on August 16, 1812 for the first time, presumably on today largely ablated hanging glacier in the eastern flank of Südostgrats. However, it is not clear whether the three actually reached the main summit. Proven, however, is the conquest of the summit on 10 August 1829 Jakob Leuthold and Johann During about today's normal route. These were the guides of the glacier researcher Franz Joseph Hugi, who had himself left behind because of a foot injury in a dip, which now bears his name.
