Fiorenzo Angelini

Cardinal Fiorenzo Angelini ( born August 1, 1916 in Rome) is a retired cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Fiorenzo Angelini was dedicated to philosophical and theological studies on 3 February 1940 priests and then worked for five years in parish ministry before he was in the years 1945-1947 Ecclesiastical Advisor of Catholic Action for the whole of Italy. From 1947 to 1954 he performed the duties of the Pontifical Ceremonies.

1956 Pope Pius XII appointed him. Titular Bishop of Messene and entrusted him with responsibility for the pastoral care hospital in Rome. He received his episcopal consecration Giuseppe Cardinal Pizzardo in the Roman church of St Ignatius of Loyola in Campo Marzio; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Luigi Traglia and Bishop Ismaele Mario Castellano. The conservative Angelini was since that time as one of the most controversial men of the Curia. He allied himself with right political parties in order to obtain an exclusion of the Communists. From 1977 to 1985 Fiorenzo Angelini worked additionally as auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Rome. 1985 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II as titular archbishop and president of the Pontifical Commission for the pastoral care of the people in medical professions.

Fiorenzo Angelini heard since 1991 as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia Santo Spirito in Sassia the College of Cardinals and was raised while retaining its title Diakonia cardinal priest per hac vice 2002. In 1996, John Paul II Angelinis to resignation, after he had reached the age of 80.

He is the author of numerous writings on the spiritual welfare and played a decisive role in the development of several health centers and clinics worldwide. During the physical decline of John Paul II, he was the only one of the permanent and free access to the apartments of the Pope had.
