Firebreak

A firebreak is a several -meter strip in woods, large meadows and heaths and other fire-prone large-scale installations. Within this strip is depending on the environment the amount of combustible material (trees, bushes, buildings etc.). Reduced to a minimum, so that this gap for a fire is a difficult insurmountable obstacle to the spread of a forest fire.

Firebreaks are mostly artificial origin (such as clearing in the woods ), but also natural features such as a wide river or a rocky ridge may represent firebreaks. Wide roads can take over the function of a firebreak in densely populated large urban areas also.

For large fires firebreaks used by grub up as an active firefighting.
