Fireman Sam (Original Title: Fireman Sam and Sam Tân ) is a Welsh animated series, which was developed in 1985 by Rob Lee. The idea came from two firefighters from Kent. It was produced in parallel in Welsh and English and broadcast by the TV stations, S4C and BBC. The English Air Date was carried out two years later on 17 November 1987. Subsequently it came to new editions with more modern technology.

The series deals with the fireman Sam, who works in the small fire station of the fictional Welsh village Pontypandy. The episodes are about small accidents where Sam always as a knight in shining armor coming to the rescue. The intention is closer to children fire prevention and to encourage them to vote at risk the emergency call. To be addressed children between three and six years, which is why initiative is not shown during fire fighting or rescue of persons or even suggested. The stories are simple and kept the number of people involved low.

Production history

1985-1994

The first four seasons were produced with only a few dolls in stop -motion. The dolls did not change facial expressions. The faces did not change it. In the completely unrealistic bias Sams way to work it was shown: A ringing alarm clock with blue light, Sam pulls the fire brigade uniform on, get the helmet mounted electromechanical and is picked up by the fire truck.

The scales consisted of 32 episodes of about 10 minutes in length and the Christmas Special with 20 minutes.

The theme song was:

The consequences of 1990 were also synchronized in German, with Fireman Sam is always addressed with Fireman Sam. They appeared under the title The Little Fireman only on VHS tapes of Polyband & Toppic Video / WVG:

Episode 1: The hero of Pontypandy Episode 2: There is something going on in Pontypandy Episode 3: Red Alert in Pontypandy Episode 4: It smokes and smokes in Pontypandy Christmas Special: snow flurries in Pontypandy

In the German edition only the English theme song is played.

2003-2005

The fifth season was produced by HIT Entertainment with new dolls also in stop -motion. However, the faces have changed facial expressions. Added the figure of the rescue helicopter pilot Tom Thomas of the mountain rescue team and the family Flood ( craftsman Mike, nurse Helen and daughter Mandy ). In the opening credits, which took a minute, the alarm at the fire station was shown: The alarm printer ejects a message from Sam takes his helmet, the fireman's pole slips down to the car and drives off.

This season has 26 episodes and has been dubbed German.

The new English theme song was:

The German title song was:

At the word siren is however to see a bell.

2008

The seasons 6 and 7 were also prepared from HIT Entertainment with computer animation. The appearance of the figures has been largely maintained. Due to the simpler manufacturing method other characters could be added. Pontypandy is now the sea and has a port, the fire department therefore also a boat. The already known twins Sarah and James were parents: the fisherman Charlie and the hostess Bronwyn, which is called in the German translation Gwendolyn. The pizza baker Bella Lasagne pauses in these episodes.

The bias has been reduced to 30 seconds and corrected so that Sam takes his helmet after the sliding pole in the wagon shed and touches. The 26 episodes in each of the two seasons are shown on German television as season 6 episode 1 to 52. The Season 7 Episode 1 to 26 and as the 6th season than 27 to 52 ( with exchange ) can be seen.

The shortening the first verse of the title song was sung in English only, the text of the German title song was changed to:

The second verse is heard only in the film Pontypandy in danger.

2012

The seasons 8 and 9 were fitted with additional figures and vehicles. So Sam now has a quad named Mercury as emergency vehicle. The fire department also has a quadrocopter with location sensors, which is called Saturn. New is, for example, the ethnic Chinese Chen family. Pontypandy also has a railway station with steam train operation. These squadrons with 26 and 30 episodes were not previously seen on German television.

Pontypandy

The rural municipality has two real examples: Pontypridd and Tonypandy, which are eight kilometers away from each other in the county of Mid Glamorgan in South Wales. You are in the interior not far from Cardiff. The fire station is, according to the story headquarters in the real existing Newtown in Powys Grafschraft. The nearby mountains allow the introduction of a mountain rescue team from the fifth season. From the sixth season Pontypandy is also by the sea, which added inserts in the sea.

Fire Station

The fire station of the town lies on a small hill, which is why she was spared the floods .. To the left of the vehicle hall with two goals is the office with headquarters. On the first floor in the roof there is a lounge with kitchen. Right on the premises is a riser tower, which is also used for exercises .. In the vehicle hall are the two emergency vehicles Jupiter and Venus. The Rüstlöschfahrzeug Jupiter, which is also equipped with a telescopic pole stage, focus is on a turntable and is - very realistic - first rotated before departure in the direction of travel. The vehicle has been in the early seasons the indicator J 999, for Jupiter and the British Emergency Fire 999 Venus is a geländegänginges little fire engine.

Characters

Fireman Sam Jones

He is the " hero next door ', which can perform almost all operations except diving. It symbolizes the fire of the place at risk the fire department is not called, but "Fireman Sam". As it says in the title song: Pontypandys firefighters would be lost without Sam. He drives the fire truck Jupiter. But he is also known as air and water rescuers in use. Incidentally Sam invents still beneficial things for work ( thermometer for hay bales, Tongs, ...) or leisure (eg a popcorn machine, metal detector ). He is single, which is not surprising, since he is not even dispensable on his day off. In his meager spare time he is engaged in the cultivation of vegetables in his garden bed. The last name of Jones comes from one of two ex- firemen who had the idea for the series. A standard phrase is: "Holy St. Florian " ( in English " Great fires of London !"). German spokesman Clemens Gerhard.

Fireman Elvis Cridlington

He's obviously not ready yet trained and is presented in a slightly begriffstützig. He kept having problems with the main firefighter because of the resulting misunderstandings. He now and then the fire truck Jupiter moves. He wears the hairstyle of Elvis Presley, enjoys singing, playing guitar and cooking for his colleagues in the fire service kitchen. Maybe it's main firefighter Steels secret son, for he calls it, for example in the following Elvis' grand entrance with pride, " my boy ". German spokesman Oliver Böttcher.

Main firefighter Basil / Norris Steele

The commander of the fire station is a correct officer addressing his team only with the last name, except Sam. In the original, his rank is Station Officer. He also wears a white officer's helmet, which is why the translation from the 6th season with the main firefighter is too low, it should read, as in the 5th season yet the case fire captain. He was previously an army officer in the Royal Welch Fusiliers -. With an injury he 's still service. In the early seasons he leads personally every use, in the later seasons, where he suddenly the name Norris, he is seen less and less in use. He leads the exercises, through which the viewer gets safety tips. Otherwise, he almost always stays in his office on the radio to receive emergency calls. As Elvis once breaks his foot and Steele take him mitfährt to use, it provides only for problems. In some episodes he is even depicted as childish. Standard phrases are: " By my faith ," and " Every second counts " ( in English: " Action stations men! " ) German spokesman Achim Schuelke.

Main Fire Chief Boyce

Boyce is the superior of Steeles from Newtown. He is the Chief Fire Officer original, which is the highest officer grade of the British fire service. The translation with the main fire chief is therefore wrong here, he would be the main fire inspector. He is a kind of district fire chief, visited the Pontypandy over again. In the film Pontypandy in danger he gives the medals for bravery and Sam tries to poach for keeping the fire station in Newtown.

From the 6th season the business is not a mom-and-pop store more, but the savings - price supermarket (English Cut Price Supermarket ), with the word Price in English is ambiguous and refers to both the price and the family name.

The twins

Sarah and James Jones are Sam's niece and nephew and unlike Norman better educated, but take care in the season of 2008 with their quarrels and for emergency situations. In the sixth season, the twins get parents, who run the cod cafe. German spokeswoman for Sarah Kim Mayhew.
