Firewind

Firewind is a Greek power metal band around guitarist Gus G.

History

As of 1999, Gus G. began composing and recording demo songs and was able to arouse the interest of producer David Chastain. 3 years Other Gus G. wrote songs, and eventually he and Chastain studied 13 tracks from an album. As yet there was no band for the project, committed Chastain various musicians from different countries, contribute to the individual instruments. So guitars, bass and keyboards were recorded in Greece, the singing (Stephen Fredrick ) and the drums (Brian Harris) in the U.S., and it was mixed in Sweden. In fact, Gus G. and singer Fredrick until years later met for the first time. The debut album was released in 2002 under the title Between Heaven and Hell.

For the second album Burning Earth a new drummer and a new bass player were committed with which Gus G. went to the publication also on tour in Japan, which may be called the first real band occupation. Although singer Fredrick contributed again his voice in, but it was not to be had for a tour and was replaced by Chity Somapala. Also new was Bob Katsionis on keyboards.

With the newly formed band Gus G. took on the third album Forged by Fire, which was published in 2005. In the same year Firewind played as the opening act next to Lordi and Thunderstone with the Icebreaker Festival. Headliner was Hammerfall. At the same time the occupation carousel turned on: Somapala left the band at his own request, and before a replacement could be found with Apollo Papathanasio, keyboardist Katsionis left.

Nevertheless, Gus G. decided to make Firewind his main project and increased between 2004 and 2006 gradually out from his other band Dream Evil, Mystic Prophecy and Nightrage.

In the year 2006/2007 the band toured through Asia, the USA, Africa and Europe and played almost 100 concerts. Between headlining shows and special guest acts played Firewind, among others, in the interlude of Dragonforce, Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, Edguy and Joe Satriani.

On 28 March 2008 they released their new album The Premonition. In April and May, they went together with Kamelot and Forever Slave on a European tour. In the autumn of the same year their first live DVD was released. The 100 - minute show has been added to Thessaloniki. In 2010, the album Days of Defiance 2012 Album Few Against Many appeared.

Firewind have ( etc. Adagio, Beyond Twilight, ) announced on January 15, 2013 Kelly Sundown Carpenter as the new singer for their upcoming North American tour after the longtime singer Apollo Papathanasio left the band.
