Became known Firminy Vert by the urban planning of Le Corbusier, the church of Saint Pierre, the stadium, the youth and culture (today: Espace Le Corbusier ) here and built a Unité d' Habitation ( dwelling unit ). This city planning (1964-1969) is the only Le Corbusier in Europe.

The church of Saint Pierre was opened in 2006. Completion was delayed due to financial and political reasons, since the foundation stone was laid in 1970, and again. The building, completed by Le Corbusier 's former assistant José Oubrerie, could ultimately be financed with public funds, which in France also led because of the strict separation of church and state ( secularism ) that the church is a cultural site.
