First Contact (1983 film)

First Contact is an Australian documentary from the year 1983. Was directed by Robin Anderson and Bob Connolly.

The black and white film describing the first contact between the highland peoples of Papua New Guinea with European explorers in the 1930s. These were actually looking for gold and found a million Papuans who have never previously had contact with the outside world and a "civilized society".

First Contact was nominated for the Academy Awards in 1984 for Best Documentary, but had to give Emile Ardolinos He Makes Me Feel Like Dancin ' beaten.
