First Council of Braga

The first Synod of Braga took 561 in the Portuguese city of Braga today instead. The local council, which took place at the Metropolitan seat of Suebian Empire under the leadership of Lucretius Braga, had become possible because with King Ariamir the Suebenreich was again dominated by a Catholic king after his Arian predecessors had banned Catholic gatherings of their subjects.

The eight Synod Fathers turned in a decree, especially against the Priscillianism and Manichaeism. Of importance is the condemnation of the doctrine that the devil is uncreated. Thus, the Synod met the first doctrinal statement about the devil in church history.

And any subsequent councils - - had only local significance and, ultimately, to a local self liturgy, the rite bracarensis, resulted in a second decree, the Synod Fathers decisions to the order of the liturgy, but met.
