First government of Israel

The Cabinet David Ben- Gurion, I was the first Israeli government that was formed after the first general election of 25 January 1949. The government was formed by David Ben- Gurion on March 8, 1949, the coalition parties Mapai, United Religious Front, Progressive Party and Sephardim and Oriental Communities and included twelve ministers.

During the reign of compulsory education for all children between five and fourteen years was introduced in 1949.

On October 15, 1950 David Ben-Gurion resigned as Prime Minister after the United Religious Front protested against the dissolution of the Ministry of Religion and War veterans and the appointment of a businessman as Minister of Trade and Industry.
