Action

Connie Harding is an orphan and has just finished school. Now she is forced to live in the household of her rich uncle James Clinton. Background

Since her success in Three Smart Girls 1936 Deanna Durbin had risen to become the biggest star of Universal Pictures. Her films were all very financially successful, but Durbin outgrew gradually the previous roles of the innocent girl. The studio since 1938 planned the shift to adult roles, however, for the films with a lot of care. First Love should be the first film in which Durbin officially got granted with all the attendant problems in their own roll of film love life. The necessary first kiss took place in the publicity that accompanied the film, a broad space. Producer Joe Pasternak was among the tabloids active participation test hundreds of young men to really find the perfect partner for the epoch-making event. The film initially had the working title of Cinderella and After School Days before the election to the obvious title First Love dropped. Plans to produce First Love as the first color film of the studio, however, were discarded due to technical problems.
