FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2007

The 39th Alpine Ski World was held to 18 February 2007 at Åre, Sweden on 3. Åre was awarded the 43rd FIS Congress in Portoroz (Slovenia) and beat off Lillehammer and Val d'Isere by. It was attended by 451 athletes from 60 countries. As early as 1954 there was a World Cup here.

During the first three days of racing and on the second Saturday heavy snow and fog prevented the holding of events and training runs. Thus, the super-G and downhill competitions of men and women had to be carried out on the same day. These took place on different slopes, only the target area was identical.

Successful Participant was Anja Parson with three gold, one silver and one bronze medal. With nine medals was like at the last World Championships in Austria, the strongest nation, while the team of the German Ski Association achieved a podium finish in any of the eleven contests. Could greatly increase the team of Switzerland, the 2005 was still left empty-handed and in Åre won six medals.

Program

Qualification

In Åre were held for the first time in the history of World Ski Championships qualification races. In order to limit the otherwise high number of participants in both the giant slalom and the slalom of the men to 75 racers, the FIS decided on this measure. During each 50 finishers in the world rankings were fixed qualified for the main draw, the other athletes for the remaining 25 seats had to deny the qualifying race. On February 12, 97 racers took part in the qualification for the Giant Slalom. When qualifying for the Slalom on February 15, 95 racers started the race.
