FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2001
The 43rd Nordic World Ski Championships was held from February 15 to 25, 2001 in Lahti instead. The city in Finland was thus already the sixth time the venue ( after 1926, 1938, 1958, 1978 and 1989). There were 18 matches played (11 cross-country skiing 4 ski jumping and Nordic 3 combinations ). Had the 30- km run for women to be canceled because of cold ( -23 ° C).
The cross-country competitions were overshadowed by a doping scandal involving six Finnish cross-country skiers. The domestic runners Virpi Kuitunen, Milla Jauho, Harri Kirvesniemi, Jari Isometsä, Janne Immonen and the multiple world champion and Olympic champion Mika Myllylä taking the blood plasma expander HES has been demonstrated. The Season of Men ( 1st place) and women (2nd place) were disqualified. The scandal had far-reaching consequences for the cross-country skiing in Finland.

First was a 10 km run in the classic style, after a 10 km run in the freestyle. The original second-placed Finn Jari Isometsä ( 47:24,9 min), the silver medal was stripped for doping.
4x10 km relay

The two runners from each team ran in the classical or in free style. The Finnish season ranked first in first place, but was disqualified due to a positive doping test by Janne Immonen.
