FIS Ski-Flying World Championships

The World Cup ski flying is carried out in a two -yearly basis (even years ), alternating with the Nordic World Ski Championships ( odd years). The first ski flying World Championships took place in 1972 in Planica instead. Since 2004, in addition to the individual competition and a team competition is held.

Ski flying hills

Worldwide, there are five functional ski jump.

The hills have alternated in a fixed rotation for hosting the Ski Flying World Championships since 1983. On the sixth ski jump, which is now completely obsolete and disused Copper Peak in Ironwood, United States, never a world championship was held.

After the hill in Vikersund no longer met the requirements of the FIS, the World Cup was held in Planica 2010. The Championships 2012 took place after a conversion ski jump again in Vikersund instead, the 2014 World Cup was awarded to Harrachov.

Rules

In Ski Flying World Championships each nation must bring four jumpers at the start. Reigning ski flying world champion must also go to the four jumpers of his country at the start. For the evaluation, the results of four ( instead of two) passages are added together in contrast to all normal World Cup events, which are carried out in two days. The team competition will be decided according to a World Cup event in two passes.
