FIS Snowboarding World Championships 2011

The 9th FIS Snowboard World Cup was held from 15 to 22 January 2011 in the Spanish ski resort of La Molina (Catalonia ) instead. The choice of venue was made on 25 May 2006 by members of the FIS Executive Board during the 45th FIS Congress in Vilamoura ( Portugal). The Spanish Ski Association was the only one who had applied to host the event.

Spain was for the first time hosted a snowboard World Cup. For the State of the competitions would be the second winter sporting event after the World Alpine Ski Championships in 1996.

Program and participants

Eleven competitions were held, five for women and six for men. In parallel slalom, parallel giant slalom, snowboard cross, slopestyle and half pipe for both women and men have measured big air only men. The competitions were held in La Molina in the ski Alabaus and El Pedró. Only the Big Air competition was held in Barcelona at the Palau Sant Jordi. Particular attention was paid to the competitions in slopestyle. It was the first time the program of a snowboard World Cup. With a successful debut of the sport, the IOC could finally decide the inclusion of slopestyle in the program of the Olympic Games in March 2011.

A new record was set at the number of participants. 370 athletes from 44 nations participated in the competitions. The Snowboard Association Germany SVD has participated with eight athletes, five women and three men. However, in five of the eleven contests any German athletes took part.

Parallel Slalom

Due to strong winds the competition was held a day later.

Marion Kreiner of Austria was eliminated in the second round and was 9 Austria Julia Dujmovits was eliminated in the second round and was 10 Germany Anke Karstens was eliminated in the second round and was 12 Switzerland Julie Zogg was eliminated in the second round and was 13 Germany Selina Joerg missed the finals in 19th place. Germany Isabella Laböck missed the 28th the finals.

Parallel Giant Slalom

Germany Amelie Kober missed a medal just barely. In the semifinals, it was after the first run after a fall of her opponent already has the maximum time of 1.5 s forward, playful the lead in the second run but still due to an error on the penultimate goal. In the small final, she came only 0.04 s after Austria Doris Guenther to the finish.

United States Lindsey Jacobellis was after 2003 and 2005 for the third time world champion in this discipline. She won ahead of France Nelly Moenne Loccoz who won the qualification, and in the World Cup leader Dominique Maltais Canada.

Switzerland Emilie Aubry reached when 8 qualifying the finals and was eliminated in the quarterfinals of. Austria Susanne Moll reached 12 as qualifying the finals and was eliminated in the quarterfinals of. Austria Maria Ramberger reached 13 as qualifying the finals and was eliminated in the quarterfinals of.

Due to strong winds, the qualification was moved and carried only before the final, the semi-finals was omitted.

Germany Silvia Mittermüller belonged after good results in the Ticket to Ride World Snowboard Tour before the favorites, had to cancel their participation but then due to injury in the short term.

Parallel slalom

Due to strong winds the competition was held a day later.

Switzerland Roland Haldi was eliminated in the second round and was 11 Germany Patrick Bussler missed the finals in 19th place. Austria Siegfried Grabner missed out on the finals 21. Switzerland Nevin Galmarini missed out on the finals 22.

Parallel Giant Slalom

Austria Manuel Veith excreted in the first knockout round. Switzerland Nevin Galmarini excreted in the first knockout round. Germany Patrick Bussler excreted in the first knockout round.

Snowboard Cross

Australia Alex Pullin reached the finals as the fourth qualifying. He is the first world champion from Australia in snowboard cross.

Markus Schairer of Austria won the qualification, then retired but in the quarter -finals. Germany Konstantin Schad reached as 7 the finals and was eliminated in the second round of. Switzerland Fabio Caduff reached 11 as the finals and was eliminated in the second round of. Germany David Speiser reached 15 as the finals and was eliminated in the quarterfinals of. Big Air

In the fifth host a Big Air competition in the Snowboard World Cup won by Finland Petya Piiroinen already for the fourth time a Finn the gold medal. Canada Zachary Stone won only because of the higher score in the second jump silver from the same point Seppe Smits of Belgium third. On June 8, it was announced that Stone had used cannabis and was therefore disqualified.
