Fischingen is a municipality in the district of Münchwilen and the southernmost municipality in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland.

Geography

The southernmost point of the community fish rings and thus also of the Canton Thurgau is the landmark between the cantons of Thurgau, St. Gallen and Zurich. Just east of it, on a ridge, is located 991 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation in the canton of Thurgau.

History

The present municipality was formed in 1972 from the merger of Au, Dussnang, fish rings, upper cheeks and Tannegg.

200 Of the total 2581 population in 2010 were foreign nationals.

Attractions

  • The monastery Fischingen was founded in 1138. His baroque church was rebuilt in 1685-1687.
  • The Tannegg castle was built probably in 1240 by Bishop Heinrich von Tann. It was destroyed by the 1407 Appenzell. Today, only remnants of the tower can be seen.
  • The Art Collection Country Rose in upper beam shows works of glass and ceramics of the present, insbesonderes from the studio glass movement.
