Fissure vent

A column volcano (English: fissure vent ) is a special type of volcano.

A central volcano often has a column system, such as detectable at Krafla in Iceland.

A column volcano, however, has (possibly still) no central tubular conveyor vent. Instead, the lava flows from an elongate column, which often results in a ridge with wide -scale lava fields. However, they may just as well involve resulting crater rows.

Columns volcanoes may represent about shield volcanoes associated with columns such as on Reykjanesskagi or be independent, as in the aluminum in Ethiopia and Mount Tarawera in New Zealand.
