Five Wells

Five Wells ( five sources ) is a megalithic site at Chelmorton in the Peak District in Derbyshire England. The facility is located high up on the moor overlooking the valley.

The system consists of two east-west aligned chambers, which are opposite in 1.8 m distance, and type, covering the " Derbyshire chamber tombs " (eg Green Low, Harborough Rocks and Minninglow ) belong and are regarded as a variety of the Medway tombs.

Only a part of the plant survived. Most of the material from about 28 m measured round mound was removed, but the hill diameter is still recognizable. The capstones of the chambers and passages are missing. The eastern chamber is relatively intact, while the western is more disturbed, but was clearly identical. The chambers are tapezoid and taper towards the end. Three sides are made of large limestone slabs, this area is similar to the structural condition as it is known from wedge tombs. Access to the chamber is formed by 1.5 m high portal stones that make up the front in a way she 's tombs typical of Clyde. However, here is in front of the high portal not a square, but a long rectangular passage, so that the overall floor plan is roughly spade-shaped.
