Fjard

A Fjärd ( Plural. Fjärdar ) is a distant mountain formed by glacial erosion bay. Although the Swedish word Fjärd etymologically corresponds to the Norwegian word fjord and the German word Fjord and all three coastal formations were shaped by the ice age, there are geologically but three different formations.

Formation

Fjärdar have arisen at the bottom of the ice sheet by free glacial erosion with wide Ausraumgebiet. The so-formed wavy rock formations without much relief contrasts were flooded with the melting of glaciers in the Holocene part, the Fjärde archipelago with many small bays ( Fjärd ) and numerous offshore islands ( archipelago ).

The water level was only increased by the onset of ice melt, the water level ( Yoldia Sea ), then picked up by the relief from the ice of the subcontinent, and the basin of today's Baltic became the sweet Ankylussee, : In the Baltic region, the development of the relationship between ground level and water levels was complicated was limited by the drain. Then the sea lifted, then lifted the mainland and eventually stagnated continental uplift. Therefore have Fjärdar features of both uplift and subsidence of coasts.

Demarcation

  • Fjords are the work of valley glaciers, which ended in the sea. Therefore, they are bounded laterally by high steep slopes and the open sea by a nearby underwater rock barrier.
  • Fjords caused by migrated from icy pool on flat coastal glaciers, so are flooded valleys in the area of terminal moraines and have accordingly sandy soil and sandy shore.

Occurrence

  • Baltic coasts of Sweden and Finland. This also water surfaces are even more than in fjords expected to Fjärdar who have no contact with the mainland, but are limited round of islands.
