Fjord Line

Fjord Line is a Norwegian shipping company. It was founded in 1993 as a subsidiary of the transport undertaking Rutelaget Askøy Bergen AS, to take the ferry to Denmark. The headquarters are located in Bergen.

History

The transport company Rutelaget Askøy Bergen was founded in 1950. First, the task of the company was to entertain the local ferry and bus service between the island Askøy and mountains. In addition, the Company operated a ferry service between Stavanger and Bergen, and a Fährline on the Boknafjord.

In 1992, the cruise line's inclusion of a ferry service between Bergen and Egersund and Hanstholm in Denmark. In the 1980s there had been a ferry line between Bergen and Stavanger to Hirtshals in Denmark. By the shipping company Fred Olsen was operated. After the merger of the two companies on 1 January 1995, the operation under the name of Fjord Line AS was continued.

In the fall of 1997, the Fjord Line took over the ship Lygra by the company Seatrans AS in order to use it as an additional ship for cargo can. Today this ship operates mainly between Egersund and Hanstholm. In autumn 1998, Fjord Line took over the ferry service between Bergen, Haugesund and Stavanger from the Color Line.

The 2002 financial year was successful for Fjord Line, which reached a record in the number of passengers. 2007 merged with the shipping company Fjord Line Ferries MasterCard, Kristiansand, Norway, where Fjordlines takes the lead. The new company is still called Fjord Line. Through the merger, the shipping company came into possession of the Fjord Cat, which the ferry service on the route Hirtshals - Kristiansand recorded and could shorten the travel time compared to the ships of the competitor Color Line.

The Atlantic Traveller was modernized during a shipyard stay in January 2008 and renamed Bergensfjord.

With the beginning of 2009 Fjord Line has abandoned the operation of Egersund and Hanstholm and now serves with the Bergensfjord the route Hirtshals Stavanger - Bergen. As of April 2010, it operates two ferry lines again between Denmark and Norway with two ships.

The shipping company announced that as of May 2013, a new ship between Hirtshals Stavanger - Bergen is used. Together with the Bergensfjord the new building allows a daily departure. A second new building will be from September 2013 at the new route Hirtshals - used Langesund. The new buildings will be 170 meters long and can accommodate 1,500 passengers and 600 cars. The vessels will be built by the shipyard Bergen Group Fosen in Poland and Norway and to be deployed from May to September 2013.

On June 20, 2014 Fjord Line will with the new Oslo Fjord for the first time the route Sandefjord - Strömstad use.
