FK Atlantas

The Futbolo Klubas Atlantas Klaipeda is a Lithuanian football club from Klaipėda and currently plays in the first division.

History

The club was founded on 1962 as a granita. In 1991, the name was extended by the addition of macaws. In 1993 it was renamed the PSK macaws. Since 1995, the association assumed its present name Atlanta. A year later Sirijus Klaipėda joined the FK Atlantas.

After the 2008 season, which was completed in sixth place, is Atlanta's pulled due to differences with the Lithuanian Football Federation initially voluntarily from the first division back. Then the team was demoted to the third tier. There succeeded as First Place of the Western Group of immediate re-emergence, in the following season, it was enough only for seventh place in the second division. 2010 managed to jump back into the top league in which you play to this day.

FK Atlantas participated twice in the UEFA Intertoto Cup. In the first participation in 2000 succeeded by a 5-4 victory in the penalty shoot-out against the Turkish club Kocaelispor the only time to reach the second round of a European competition. 2005, the second round was just missed after Spartak Moscow defeated in the home game 1-0, but lost the return match was 0:2.

In three participations in the qualification for the UEFA Cup Atlanta failed each in the first round.
