FK Baník Sokolov

Banik Sokolov is a Czech football club based in the North West Bohemian Sokolov. Since the 2006/07 season, the club plays in the 2nd Czech league.

Club history

Banik Sokolov was founded in 1948 as SK HDB nad Ohri Falknov. That same year, the city nad Ohri Falknov, German Sokolov was renamed in Sokolov. In November 1948, also came to the renaming of the club in ZTS HDB Sokol Sokolov.

From 1951 played HDB Sokol Sokolov in the then so-called second-rate Krajská soutěž. There played more than 200 clubs in 20 seasons. HDB Sokol Sokolov won the same in 1951 his group, with a promotion to the 1st Czechoslovak league this success was not however connected.

1953, the club changed its name to Banik Sokolov, at the same time it came to the introduction of a second league, which the Krajská soutěž and thus Sokolov was only mediocre. Just one year later the Czechoslovak football was reorganized again. Six seasons of the Oblastní soutěž solved the 21 seasons of the Krajská soutěž as the third highest division. In 2006 the club was converted into a public limited company, sole shareholder was the mining company Sokolovská uhelná. The FK Banik Sokolov acquired in the summer of 2006, the second division license from FK AS Pardubice. The first professional season in club history ended Banik Sokolov in sixth place.
