FK Púchov

FK Púchov is a Slovak football club from Púchov, currently playing in the second highest Slovakian league.

History

The first football club in Púchov was founded in 1920. The club development did not start until right after the Second World War. In the years 1950 and 1963 Púchov played in the 2nd Slovak league. Later they played a few years in the third league. In the years 1974 to 1986 ( with the exception of the Game 1982/ 1983) the team played under the name " Gumárne 1.mája Púchov " in the former SNL and in the CNL, the former Czechoslovak second league. After the independence of Slovakia (1993 ), the club played under the name " ŠK Matador Púchov " in the 2nd Slovak League and since 2000 in the first Slovakian league. In July 2006, the main sponsor Matador got out and the club was relegated to the third division. In addition, the name part Matador has been removed from the association name. As FK Púchov played the club for the next three years in the third-rate second league before he / 09 in the first league ( second highest division) rose at the end of the 2008 season.

Púchov plays since 1962 in the highest Czechoslovak and later Slovakian junior competition.

  • In the 2001 /02 season the club took part in the UEFA Cup. Once you could prevail in the qualifiers against the Maltese representatives Sliema Wanderers, you failed in the first round with 0:0 and 1:2 at SC Freiburg.
