FK Željezničar Sarajevo

The FK Željezničar Sarajevo, FK Sloboda Tuzla after (compared to 1919), the second oldest football club in Bosnia and Herzegovina and with five championships current record holder of the country before Čelik Zenica. City rivals FK Sarajevo and FK Olimpic is Sarajevo.

History

The club was founded on 15 September 1921 by the attendants and railway workers of the Yugoslav railways and harbors long traditions. Greatest success in the European Cup was reaching the UEFA Cup semi-final in 1985 and winning the Mitropapokals 1979. 1972 was the FK Željezničar Yugoslavian the only time champion. Traditional local rivals of railwaymen is the FK Sarajevo.

UEFA Cup

In the 1984/85 season Željezničar played in the UEFA Cup. The first game we played against the DFS Sliven. In Bulgaria, the club lost 0-1 in the home game won Željezničar 5-1 and thus increased in the second round of the UEFA Cup. There they competed against FC Sion in Switzerland. Home Željezničar won 2-1 in Switzerland, the clubs split 1-1. Željezničar rise thus to the last sixteen. There they met Universitatea Craiova in Romania. In Romania Željezničar surprisingly lost 0-2, but in Sarajevo they won 4-0 and was thus in the quarterfinals. Playing in the round of eight had Željezničar against Dinamo Minsk in the former Soviet Union. Home could Željezničar win 2-0 in Minsk they played 1:1 and was in the semifinals. In the semifinals Željezničar met the FC Videoton Szekesfehervar and lost the first game 3-1. In Sarajevo, they only won 2-1 and eliminated so that out of the UEFA Cup.

Fans

The ultras of the club called The Maniacs and stands ( German: The Horde of evil ) in competition with Fangruppierung Horde Zla that belongs to the club FK Sarajevo.
