Geography

Geographical Location

Fladungen is the northernmost town in Lower Franconia. The district Weimarschmieden is the northernmost town in the Free State of Bavaria. Fladungen lies in the region Main- Rhön, in the valley of the litter.

History

789 Fladungen was first mentioned in a document of the monastery of Fulda. 1335, Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian town rights. The possession of the city was disputed between the Bishop of Würzburg and the Prince-Abbot of Fulda. In 1335, the Noble Henry of Fladungen was given the cents and the office of mayor of the Hildeburg. As the Office Fladungen with Hildeburg in 1435 (later called Henneberg - Römhild ) by pledging to the Counts of Henneberg - Aschach came, put these Adolf marshal of Ostheim as bailiff there. Through an inheritance of the county of Henneberg - Römhild Fladungen came in 1468 for " Münnerstädter part " under Count Otto von Henneberg - Römhild. Later Fladungen came by mortgage redemption back to the Bishopric of Würzburg.

In 1596 the Office Hildeburg was still called, but already in 1600 the bailiff lived in Fladungen. As an Office of the High Bishopric of Würzburg, which belonged to the Frankish Empire Circle, Fladungen was Bavarian after the secularisation of 1803 a short time. In 1805 it was left Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg. The reichsritterschaftliche village Sands of the Lords of stone came in 1808 through an exchange of territory by the Office Maßfeld in the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg. During this time, Weimarschmieden from the back court of the Office Lichtenberg in the Duchy of Saxe -Weimar -Eisenach must have come to Würzburg.

Since the Treaty of Paris in 1814 the place Fladungen and the surrounding area are finally to Bavaria. Since the inner-German border opened in 1989, Fladungen is no longer in Zonenrandgebiet. In 1992, the city was awarded the Europa Nostra medal.

Incorporations

Took place on 1 July 1971 in the course of municipal reform in Bavaria, the integration of previously independent municipalities Sands and Weimarschmieden. On 1 January 1972 Brüchs, Leubach and Oberfladungen were added. Male shrinkage followed on 1 April 1973. The series of incorporations was completed with the inclusion of Heufurt on 1 May 1978.

Policy

Mayor Robert Müller ( CSU) from the district Heufurt. He is the successor of Mischa Schmitt ( voting bloc ), who was killed in a car accident. This was the successor of Herbert Ditzel (CDU Community ) in 2002. 1996 former Mayor Raymond Goldbach was retired after 28 years of service.

Structures

The old town is still largely surrounded by a city wall from the year 1335 in its original height. The city wall was then built with 5 towers and 16 turrets tab. All towers in the city wall and the rider turrets on top of the wall have been preserved. The old town has many half-timbered buildings, including the former Pfründnerspital. In the old town is also the Episcopal Würzburgische office home and the Catholic parish church of St. Kilian.

Fladungen is located on the main road 285 The Federal Highway 71 is about 20 km away and can be reached via the junction Mellrichstadt.
