Flag of Abkhazia

The flag was officially adopted in Abkhazia 's unilateral declaration of independence on 23 July 1992. It was designed in 1991 by V. Gamgia.

Description and significance

Horizontal there are four green and three white stripes with each other. In the upper left corner there is a red canton with a white hand to the above are arranged in a semicircle around seven white, five-pointed stars. The stars, all with a tip up.

History

The flag of Sebastopol is listed in a book published in 1350.

Even during the Soviet era had its own flag Abkhazia from 1925. The same applies to a flag that should have existed from 1930 to 1931. Between 1925 and 1931 a flag was used by the Soviet model: red with hammer, sickle and star and the Cyrillic letters for CCPA Soviet Socialist Republic of Abkhazia. 1931 Abkhazia was an ASSR within Georgia. In Article 84 of the Constitution of 1935, the Cyrillic abbreviation ACCPA ( ASSRA ) is used in the flag of the ASSR.
