History

Nevertheless, the history of this flag goes back further. The color scheme is from the traditional coat of arms symbol, the red Märkischen eagle on white ( silver ) base derived. 1882 the red-white flag was officially adopted province.

From 1945 to 1952, the province led (from 1947: the country ) Brandenburg instead of this " Prussian- monarchist " frowned upon as a symbol red-white- red flag. This was decided by the Presidium of the Provincial Council on 24 October 1945. On 15 December 1945, specified that the ratio of the width of the horizontal stripes 2:1:2 amount, the white stripe should be so narrower than the red. Curiously, resembled the new flag - except for the tint of the color red - that of 1940 annexed by the Soviet Union, the Republic of Latvia. With the de facto dissolution of the federal state of Brandenburg in 1952 they fell into disuse.

The state of Brandenburg in 1990 newly founded returned to the traditional color combination of red and white.
