Flag of Cantabria

The flag of Cantabria is a horizontally in white and red in equal widths divided bunting.

For optical reasons, the coat of arms of Cantabria, when used, shifted slightly upwards but otherwise placed in the center.

History

The flag is often depicted without coat of arms. Their colors date back to the crest. The coat of arms shows in its upper half, an event from 1248, when merchants from Cantabria with a ship broke through the chain lock of the port of the Moorish city of Seville, and thus had part in liberating the city. The lower half shows a silver disc with geometric patterns.
