Flag of Guernsey

The current flag of Guernsey was adopted on 30 April 1985.

Description

The flag shows the red cross of St. George. Above this is a second golden cross. It refers to William the Conqueror, who was wearing a cross in his flag during the battle of Hastings such.

History

In the 19th century an Ensign was used with a blue and white checkerboard pattern for Guernsey. Later Guernsey used the red cross of St. George on a white background. Guernsey received in 1936 permission to use it for his flag.

Flags Islands

The flag of Alderney was introduced on 20 December 1993. On the flag of a George Cross is seen in the center of the coat of arms is Alderney. The coat of arms shows a crowned, golden lion, the wild one offspring keeps on green background with a gold border.

The island Brecqhou ( Brechou ) received its own flag on 23 November 1967. It corresponds to the flag of Sark, to whose territory the island belongs. In addition, it results in the lower part of the coat of arms Brecqhous flight.

The Herms flag is white with a red St. George's Cross, showing the coat of arms of Herm top left. The coat of arms is blue and is divided by a yellow diagonal stripes. In the blue area are two white dolphins to see and yellow diagonal stripes three black monks. The three black monks represent the Missionaries of St. Magloire, St Sampson and St Helier, the 9th centuries Christianized the Channel Islands in the 6th. The flag was designed by British vexillologists William Crampton. The coat of arms Herms was adopted in 1953. To 1951, the island used a blue flag with the coat of arms of Guernsey in the hoisted flag.

The flag of Sark shows a red St. George's Cross on a white background with two golden lions on a red background ( the historical flag of Normandy ) in the upper left box. It was designed in 1938 by Herbert Pitt and adopted in the same year. It served as the personal flag of the feudal lord of the island ( Seigneur de Sark and lady ), at this time, Sibyl Hathaway. Functions that are similar to a National Flag, they met only since the current Seigneur John Michael Beaumont, releasing them for use in the Iceland games for which a flag was needed. At these international sports competitions takes part Sark since 1987. As a maritime flag, the flag of Sark can not be used.
