Flag of Jordan

The flag of Jordan was officially launched on 16 April 1928.

Importance

The national flag consists of the Pan-Arab colors, of three equal horizontal stripes: black top, white in the middle and green at the bottom. It is located on the left edge of a red triangle. In it, a white seven -pointed star.

The horizontal colors represent the Arab Abbasid (black), Umayyad (white) and Fatimids (green). The red triangle for the Hashemite dynasty and the Arab resistance.

The seven -pointed star has a double meaning: first, it stands for the seven verses of the first chapter of the Koran, the other for the unity of the Arab tribes. Another explanation sees in him the seven hills on which the capital city of Amman was originally built.

History

The flag of Jordan is based on the flag of the Arab resistance against the Ottoman Empire during the First World War. Between 1921 and 1928 a flag was used without star.
