The overhead, black stripes stands for the black people, the red stripe stands for the case with a lot of courage and valor shed blood, the green stripe for the fields and forests of the country and the white dividing lines for peace between the past and the future of black man in Africa and the unity of the peoples.

The flag is based on the black-red- green flag of the Kenya African National Union, which led the struggle of independence. Before independence, a Blue Ensign was used with coat of arms in the fly as a colonial flag of the Colony and Protectorate of Kenya.
