Flag of Malaysia

The flag of Malaysia ( Malay: Jalur Gemilang = glorious strip ) was adopted on 16 September 1963.

Description

The design of the flag is inspired by the flag of the United States. The 14 red and white stripes of the flag represent the original 14 states of Malaysia. For the same reason, the star at 14 pips. Red and white are traditional Malay colors. The blue upper leech originally pointed to the connection to the Commonwealth, later they pointed to the symbolism in the unity of the Malaysian people. Yellow is the royal color.

History

The British Straits Settlements in 1874 received its own flag, in which the white disk in 1925 was removed and added again in 1942. 1946, the colony was dissolved.
