Flag of Mauritania

The flag of Mauritania was adopted on April 1, 1959, even before independence from France on 28 November 1960.

Description and significance

The national flag pointing to emerald green background a golden crescent, about a golden, five-pointed star. The aspect ratio is 2:3, corresponding to the flag of France.

The colors green and yellow are (next to the unused here, red) and pan-African colors and have the significant portion of the black African population. Green and the crescent symbolizes Islam, the main religion of the country.

History

Only in 1958 did the colonial power France to own icons for his African estate. Today's national flag has been set with the Constitution of 22 March 1959, and officially launched on April 1. The current constitution of 12 July 1991 confirmed the appearance of the flag. A Flag Act, which sets out the structure exactly is missing.
