Flag of North Rhine-Westphalia

The flag of North Rhine -Westphalia is a State emblem. It is the determined by the law on the national colors, the coat of arms and the flag of March 10, 1953 Flag of the German state of North Rhine -Westphalia. § 1 first determines:

" The country's colors are green, white and red. "

These colors are a combination of the provincial colors of the Rhineland ( green and white ) and Westphalia ( white-red ).

To flag says § 3:

" The flag is composed of three equally wide horizontal stripes, green above, white in the middle, red on the bottom. The ratio of height to length of the flag cloth is like three to five. "

The country's official flag, whose leadership is reserved exclusively for the North Rhine- Westphalian state authorities, is described in § 4:

" The official flag of the state authorities is the flag that, in the green and red stripes, the country's coat of arms shows in the middle, slightly shifted towards the bar each up to a fifth across. "

The coat of arms combines the coats of arms of the three parts of the country: the Rhine for the Rhineland, the Sachsenross for Westphalia and Lippe Rose for the 1947 added Come former country lip.

Similar flags have already been used in 1797 and 1923 Cisrhenanische Republic of the Rhenish Republic.
