Flag of Saint Helena

The flag of St. Helena was introduced on 4 October 1984 and the official flag of St. Helena and its Dependencies. It is a modification of the Blue Ensign, that is blue with the flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the luff Obereck and the shield of Saint Helena in the middle of the flying side of the flag. The shield shows a rocky coastline and three-masted sailing ship with a British flag and the Saint Helena Plover ( Charadrius sanctaehelenae ), a domestic bird there.

In a valid 1939-1984 predecessor version of the shield in the fly consisted only of the landscape. Tristan da Cunha, a tributary territory of Saint Helena, took his own flag in October 2002.
