Flag of Saudi Arabia

The flag of Saudi Arabia was introduced in 1932 and adopted in its present form on 15 March 1973.

Meaning and description

The national flag shows on a green background a white, horizontally arranged sword over white Arabic script. Green is the color of Islam, specifically the color of Mohammed. The font is the creed of Islam ( Shahada ) again:

The smooth sword symbolizes righteousness and justice.

The two sides of the flag have a slightly different design, so that the Shahada can be read on both sides from right to left: On the front of the reading order of the leech is in the direction of aviation items, on the back of Flight part toward the hoist. The sword handle is positioned on the front side at the beginning of the Shahada on the back at its end. So the sword tip has each side towards the flight part.

Protocol

Due to the shown on the flag of the Islamic confession of faith ( Shahada ) the flag should not be lowered to half mast.

The Creed is forcing the Saudis also used to treat the flag with an even greater respect than it already is usually the case with national flags. So may a Saudi a national flag pictured because of the Shahada, for example, do not dispose of or destroy. This then leads to problems particularly if international companies in ignorance of this fact, the Saudi national flag print on disposable products (packaging, cans, etc. ), for example, a list of ingredients to be labeled in Arabic.

History

The Saudi Arabian flag is derived from the flag of Najd, one of the predecessor states of Saudi Arabia.
