History

The area of present-day Slovenia was among several hundred years for a possession of the Habsburgs. The core area was the Krain, used as the national colors of red and blue. The coat of arms of Carniola was a blue eagle with red claws on silver base. The resulting white ( silver ), blue and red correspond to the pan-Slavic colors, and were first used in 1848, but not recognized by Austria - Hungary. Slovenia was created in 1918 as an administrative unit of Yugoslavia, or the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. Slovenia adopted the tricolor, but only shortly after its use was banned again because they disagreed with the idea of a unitary state under the king.

Between 1941 and 1945, Yugoslavia was occupied by the Axis powers. During this time, used Slovenian allies the tricolor with the arms of Carniola. As of January 18, 1947, the flag of the Socialist Republic of Slovenia a red star with a yellow border has been added as a sign of communism and socialism. This flag remained until 27 June 1991 use. At that time, Slovenia seceded from the first republic of the Yugoslav state and adopted a new flag.
