Flag of Tasmania

The flag of Tasmania was first introduced unofficially on 25 September 1876. It is a version of the British Blue Ensign with the state badge in the fly. The badge is a white disk with a red border lion in the middle. The exact meaning of this design is not known, but it is believed that the lion produces a reference to England. The flag has remained almost unchanged, except for a small detail change in the Lion in 1975, when the government officially introduced the flag.

Former flag

Tasmania had introduced its first flag in 1875, but only a month later in favor of the currently valid discarded. The old flag did not meet the conditions laid down by the British Admiralty specifications. In flight, part of the Southern Cross was depicted with five-pointed stars.
