Flag of the Federated States of Micronesia

The flag of the Federated States of Micronesia was officially hoisted on November 10, 1979 for the first time.

History

A similar flag was from 1965 used for the UN Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, with the two extra stars for Palau, the Marshall Islands and the Northern Mariana Islands were, which was against the accession to the Federation decided ( Kusaie then part of Pohnpei, so that both are represented by an asterisk ).

The current flag was the winning entry, submitted by 22jähringen Gonzalo Santos from the island of Saipan. It was on 30 November 1978, ie before the Konstitiuierung the Federation, raised for the first time.

Symbolism

The blue in color of the UN flag stands for freedom and loyalty, as well as the Pacific.

The white color stands for the peace of the different population groups.

The blue background represents the Pacific Ocean and the four white stars represent the four island regions of the Federation:
