Flag of the Solomon Islands

The flag of the Solomon Islands was officially launched on 18 November 1977.

Importance

The five white stars represent the five districts of Eastern, Western, Malatia, Central Islands and Outer Islands. Blue represents the water that surrounds the districts, yellow symbolizes the sun and green represents the land and its natural wealth.

History

Before the Solomon Islands their national flag - a year before independence - assumptions that they already used three other flags. It was it in fact is the British Blue Ensign with a corresponding badge.

In July of 1975, a competition for the creation of a national flag was announced. In a blue field with the winning design was a yellow circle with a frigate bird, surrounded by a chain. However, this design was not well received by the population, and as a precursor of today's flag was created after heated discussions. The stars stand for the five districts.
