Flag of Tunisia

The flag of Tunisia was first introduced in 1835 by the Tunisian Bey Hassan I.. She was in a similar form at the same time also the flag of the Ottoman province Tunus. Since then, subject to the flag only slight modifications.

Importance

The crescent and the star are symbols of Islam and are also regarded as auspicious signs. Both symbols are a reference to Tunisia's past as part of the Ottoman Empire.

The color red was a dynastic legitimacy icon in the Ottoman Empire. After the country's independence from France, the flag was adopted as the national flag.
