Flag of Tuvalu

The design of the current flag of Tuvalu was introduced with the country's independence in 1978. A slightly different form was introduced in 1997.

Description

As with other former and current British colonies, the National Flag of Tuvalu is based on the Union Flag, located at the top left. Due to the light blue color is a variety of the Blue Ensign.

The stars stand for the nine islands that make up Tuvalu; the arrangement is geographically correct, if the flag is hung vertically ( Union Jack in the upper right corner).

History

1995, the flag is replaced by a new one, which was not based on the UK, but also showed the islands as stars. Because this flag was never really accepted by the population, were introduced in 1997 a slightly modified version of the old one.
