Flag of Vietnam

The flag of Vietnam was introduced on 30 November 1955.

Description and significance

The national flag is a yellow star with five points against red background. The aspect ratio is 2:3.

The star symbolizes the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the color red stands for success and revolution, the five points stand for workers, peasants, soldiers, intellectuals and youth.

History

Originally the flag of the Emperor of Annam yellow. From 1920 to 1945 served as the flag of the ruling Nguyễn Dynasty a flag horizontally divided yellow - red-yellow.

The flag of the Empire of Vietnam from 1945 went back to the imperial colors, but received a third broken stripe in the middle.

The People's Republic was established in 1945 as a result of the August Revolution (also North Vietnam ) led one of the current flag of a similar symbolism. On a red cloth was shown in the center of a comparison to present something gedrungenerer yellow star.

The State of Vietnam, founded in 1948 took over the introduced by Emperor Bảo Dai 1948 flag. The interruption in the third strip was abolished. This flag was used by South Vietnam until the end of the Vietnam War. It was abolished on 30 April 1975.

After the victory of North Vietnam and the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam ( NLF ) flag of the FNL was used as the national flag between 30 April 1975 to 2 July 1976. With the reunification of the two parts of the country on July 2 was the North Vietnamese flag as the national flag throughout Vietnam.
