The Flak Kaserne in Ludwigsburg district Oßweil is a former barracks of the German Flak - Regiment 25 and later the U.S. Army. It lies between the residential area and Schlößlesfeld Oßweil.

History

History until the war ended

Construction took place in late 1935 and lasted until the spring of 1937 as the first soldiers and officers of the Flak - Regiment 25 of the approximately 19 hectare site moved in. First, we built several buildings offering accommodation for the soldiers and a makeshift parade ground in 1938 still an elegant Officer's Mess was built. In April 1945, French and American troops occupied the city of Ludwigsburg and the barracks commander handed over the area to the victorious powers. The flak barracks as an internment

As the detention barracks was named by Americans bearing IC74. It was the largest Nazi camps in the U.S. Army. After 1948, the barracks served for two years as a refugee camp for displaced persons. Today

Since 1991, the barracks was empty. After the departure of the soldiers the site had to be restored because the earth was contaminated by gasoline. In part, it was used as a parking area for truck trailers or as a training ground for the police.

Since 2007, the site of the former flak barracks of the city belongs. After years of negotiations, the purchase agreement with the Federal Agency for Real Estate (BImA ) was signed. On the grounds of the development area " Hartenecker height" is created. The purchase price was approximately 8.25 million euros.

The nearly 18 -acre site is to offer the best conditions for a diverse, high-quality residential offer for all population groups. 1,600 people are to be found on the Hartenecker height in a few years a new home. But first, residues like toxins, oil and asbestos must be removed. 2007 began the demolition work and for the conversion into a residential area. Use of the listed building

2008, the owner of a bakery acquired the guard house to renovate it and to open its sixth Bakery therein. There were plans for a cafe with outdoor management and rental apartments and commercial spaces. These plans were never realized, and the bakery stepped back from buying. Later, another bakery bought the building in order there also to open a bakery. 2012 began with the conversion. Among other things, the building houses a bakery, a small museum about the history of the barracks, and 2 condos.

The officers' mess, built in 1938, houses, among other things, a dining room with a stucco ceiling and wall paneling, and a fireplace room with ornamental plant. Up to 3500 square feet of floor space, the hotel offers. The casino is currently being renovated into a residential building. By the end of 2013, the work should be completed.

The old gymnasium on the grounds of the former anti-aircraft barracks was converted into a children and family center. Where once ertüchtigten soldiers can now run around children.
