Flake ice
Flake is an engineered form of ice. Flake consists of individual plates with an irregular, shards like, slightly wavy shape. The sheets of ice are 1-2 mm thick and have a temperature of about -7 ° C.
Use
Flake ice can be used for refrigeration of food, especially fish, or for the production of food. The advantage of flake ice is the large, dry, frozen- surface over which an optimal heat exchange can take place, causing a rapid and efficient cooling is achieved.
Another field of application is the cooling of concrete. Expert Forum concrete 47 - Machinery for concrete cooling and heating
Production
For the production of flake ice Flake ice used.
With a flake ice machine such example, water is filled into a reservoir in which a stainless steel roller is, the wall is cooled by a powerful chiller. Ice, that is passing through a screw conveyor upward and scraped off by a scraper, and then drops to a reservoir formed at the cylinder wall.
Another manufacturing process uses a horizontally arranged evaporator drum, which rotates in a water bath. With each revolution, the water freezes fast to the deeply supercooled evaporator surface and flakes off to a scraper.
Flake ice machines can produce quantities of ice between 100 kg and several tons daily.
